Golden spiced latte

Its pouring with August rain outside and after a rather summery supper of poached salmon salad, I have felt the need for something warm and comforting. This was perfect. Gently spiced with a little bit of milky sweetness, an ideal pre bedtime drink in my favourite mug.

Turmeric is one of my favourite spices, I love its colour, its gentle flavour and mostly how amazingly healing it is. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, a super powerful anti inflammatory and anti oxidant, which is thought to be able to help prevent heart disease, cancer, alleviate arthritis and improve gut health.

The body can absorb a higher quantity of curcumin if it is eaten alongside fat so by drinking it here with the cashew butter and coconut milk the active ingredient can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream via the lymphatic system.

Sometimes I’m lucky enough to come across fresh turmeric, which looks a bit like root ginger but if not then ground turmeric powder does the job.

Ingredients: makes 1 cup

1/2 banana

1 mug coconut milk (or any milk of your choice)

1 tsp cashew butter

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp maca powder (optional but great for a superfood energy boost if you have some)

Place all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and then heat gently until warm and fragrant.

Sprinkle with Bee pollen or raw cacao nibs and enjoy!
